High Country Friends For Life - Adopt Your Best Friend
Puppies grow up.  So many animals are adopted or purchased only to end up at a high kill shelter.  How many times I have heard people tell me,"The dog is just too big now."  What a shame that these poor animals are left to die because they grew up! Think about your breed before you adopt.  Don't throw life away because you didn't consider what your dog would be when he is no longer a ball of fluff.

Probably the biggest reason that animals wind up homeless is because people move and can't take their pets.  Your pet is a family member.  You should never adopt a pet as a temporary addition to your family.  We don't abandon those we love.  If you know that your living situation is going to change soon it is best to wait before you add a pet to your family until you are more settled.

If you adopt a puppy you will have shoes, socks, wallets, sofas, and kitchen tables chewed up.  All puppies chew!  We suggest crate training your puppy, but only for a few hours at a time.  No dog should be left in a crate for hours and hours.  Puppies need to go out every hour at first, and many times in the middle if the night.  They will pee on the carpet, and they will leave you smelly presents in the corner of the room, or right in your path for you to step in!  Not for you?  Then adopt an older pet.

All rescue dogs will have some issues to deal with.  You are not adopting Lassie!  You are adopting an animal that has been lost or abandoned.  He is rejected, scared, and confused. You will need to work through these issues with patience and acceptance. It will take several weeks for your dog to relax and feel secure. People get a dog and give up in a matter of days.  Make up your mind that you are investing in a wonderful life that needs assurance, love and gentle training. If you are willing to invest in this life... adopt your best friend!  We would love to help you find each other!
